Purple Knights Top Southern Connecticut State In Four Sets
UB Volleyball Now 2-0 On The Season
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team came back from losing the first set to post a 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-20) non-conference road win over the host Southern Connecticut University Owls on Thursday night. UB is now 2-0 on the young season, and SCSU is now 3-1 overall.
Senior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) led the UB offense with a match-high 18 kills, and she also chipped in a match-high 14 digs. Fernanda was joined in double-figure kills by freshman Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) who also notched a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs. Biljana also registered three service aces for the winners.
Senior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) had a fine match with 36 assists, 13 digs and two block assists.
Junior Taylor McBeth (Langley, B.C., Canada) registered a double-double with 13 assists and 13 digs for the Purple Knights.
Megan Lyons led three SCSU players in double-figure kills with 12 on the night.
Bridgeport is back in action at home on Saturday afternoon when they host Southern New Hampshire University. Action gets underway in Hubbell Gym at 4:00 p.m.
