Volleyball Sweeps Into 2010 ECC Championship Final
UB Downs NYIT, 25-14, 25-21, 25-17; Purple Knights Will Face Dowling In Saturday's Championship Match
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team advanced to the 2010 East Coast Conference Women's Volleyball Championship Final with a straight sets, 25-14, 25-21, 25-17, win over the host NYIT Bears on Friday night on Long Island. With the win, UB is now 23-3 overall. New York Tech's record slips to 20-12.
The Purple Knights, the defending ECC Champions, will face the Dowling College Golden Lions in tomorrow night's conference title match that will begin at 7:00 p.m. on NYIT's campus. Bridgeport and Dowling have split their two matches so far this season with Bridgeport winning, 3-1, at home (Dowling's only loss so far in 2010), and the Golden Lions sweeping the Purple Knights on their home court.
In Friday night's win, graduate student Agatha Baliddawa-Mukisa (Jinja, Uganda) led the UB offense with a match-high 17 kills. She also registered an impressive .556 attack percentage for the evening. As a team, Bridgeport's offense clicked at a .404 attack percentage versus the Bears.
Senior Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) had a double-double on the night with 16 kills and 11 digs. Masava notched a .448 attack percentage for the winners.
Junior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) led the UB defense with 13 digs.
Setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) had 35 assists for the Purple Knights.
