UB Takes Volleyball Home Opener With Four-Set Victory of Pace
Purple Knights Claim Fourth Win In A Row To Raise Season Mark To 7-1.
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team won its fourth match in a row to raise its overall record to 7-1 with a four-set, 25-9, 25-17, 17-25, 25-14, victory of the Pace University Setters in the Purple Knights' 2010 home opener on Friday night.
Senior Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) led the Bridgeport offense with 22 kills and an attack percentage of .500 on the night (22 k-4 e-36 ta). Terry also had 10 digs and one block assist in the win.
Masava was joined in double figure kills by gradate students Agatha Baliddawa (Jinja, Uganda) with 14, and Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Belgrade, Serbia) with 13. Kovacevic-Jurasin added a team-leading 17 digs on the evening.
Junior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) directed the Bridgeport offense to the tune of 44 assists.
Junior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) chipped in six kills on offense and played a fine match on defense with 12 digs and six total blocks (one solo).
The Purple Knights are right back in action on Saturday, as they host a tri-match with Dominican (N.Y.) and Southern Connecticut State. UB takes on Dominican at 10:00 a.m. and SCSU at 2:00 p.m. on the court in Hubbell Gym.
