Indoor Track And Field Squads Open 2023 At SCSU's I-95/91 Challenge
UB Will Return To Compete At Southern Conn. State Next Sunday
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's indoor track and field teams saw their first action of the 2023 calendar year on Saturday afternoon at the I-95/91 Challenge hosted by Southern Connecticut State University at SCSU Moore Fieldhouse along with the University of New Haven.
On the men's side, freshman Cristian Ellis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) turned in two first place finishes for the Purple Knights taking first place in the long jump with a lifetime-best mark of 6.45m (21-02.00) and winning the 55m Dash in a time of 6.83.
In the men's shot put, classmate Maxim Kruk (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) turned in a collegiate-best distance of 11.43m (37-06.00) to take eighth place.
On the women's side, junior Faith Hershberger (Ephrata, Pa.) had another top-notch day in the triple and long jumps, as she finished third in the triple jump with a lifetime-best of 10.64m (34-11.0) and took fourth in the long jump with a collegiate-best 4.86m (15-11.5).
Teammate, freshman Emilia Russell (Kingston, U.K.) set a lifetime-best mark in the shot put taking third place with a distance of 10.28m (33-08.75).
Both UB squads will return to the Moore Fieldhouse next Sunday, January 22 to compete in SCSU's William Sutherland Invitational.
