Two Individual Event Wins And A Relay Crown Highlight Day Two At 2018 Metro Championships For UB Swim Teams
Meet Wraps Up On Sunday Night
Piscataway, N.J.-Two individual event wins and a relay title highlighted day two of 2018 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet for the University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams in action taking place at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey. After two days of action, the Bridgeport men sit in fifth place out of 17 teams with 601.5 points, and the UB women are in ninth place out of 18 teams with 213 points.
For the Bridgeport men, junior Wilmar Du Plessis (Bloemfontein, South Africa) took first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke in a time of 49.13, and the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Du Plessiss, sophomore Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia), junior Klavio Meca (Triana, Albania) and junior Nick Semenov (Kiev, Ukraine) won that event in a time of 6:44.44.
For the Purple Knights women, junior Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) won the 200 Yard Freestyle in a time of 1:51.02 just edging out teammate senior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) who finished second in a time of 1:51.53.
Back of the men's side, Hren finished in second place in the 200 Yard Freestyle in a time of 1:39.86, and Meca was sixth in that event at 1:42.27.
Sophomore Mihovil Bakovic (Split, Croatia) finished second in the men's 100 Yard Butterfly in a time of 50.03, and sophomore Leonard Posa (Zrenjanin, Serbia) was fourth on the 100 Yard Breaststroke in a time of 57.25 with teammate Kosta Mitrovic (Fr., Belgrade, Serbia) taking sixth in the same event (57.44).
Nick Semenov took sixth place in the men's 400 Yard IM (4:08.40), and on the women's side, junior Clara Mico Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) placed eighth in the same event in a time of 4:46.35.
The UB men also took fifth place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay in a time of 1:35.14.
Action wraps up on Sunday night in the 2018 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet.
