UB Women Close Out 2016 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships With A Flourish
Women Take 14th Place At Nationals And Men Finish In 28th Place
Indianapolis, Indiana-The University of Bridgeport women's swimming team wrapped up the 2016 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving National Championship Meet in Indianapolis, Indiana with a flourish on Saturday, as the Purple Knights swam their way into 14th place over the four-day event with a total of 110 points. The UB men's team picked up a total 17 points, all by senior Ivan Capan (Zagreb, Croatia) to finish in 28th place.
Sophomore Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) got the night started off in fine fashion on Saturday by earning All-America honors in the grueling 1650-yard freestyle with an eighth place finish (16:55.58).
In the women's 100-yard freestyle, junior Yekaterina Gakhokidze (Almaty, Kazakhstan) won the consolation final for a ninth place finish in a time of 50.75. Junior Tatiana Shepel (Moscow, Russia) took 16th in the same event with a time of 51.14.
The UB women closed the 2016 National Championship Meet with a bang earning All-America honors in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, as the team of Tatiana Shepel, Yekaterina Gakhokidze, freshman Nina Stegu, and graduate student Alja Tavcar finished in sixth place in a time of 3:25.40.
