Swim Teams Return To Action Opening 2016 Portion Of Their Schedules At Rowan University
Women Post 117-76 Win; While Men Nipped By A 104.5-98.5 Score
Glassboro, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport swimming teams got back into action for the first time this semester on Saturday afternoon traveling to New Jersey to face Rowan University in dual meet action. The UB defeated the host Profs to remain unbeaten in dual meet action this season by a score of 117-76. In the men's meet, Rowan prevailed by a slim 104.5-98.5 margin.
As a team, the Bridgeport women took first place in a total of nine events; while the Purple Knights men's squad finished first in a total of eight individual races.
On the women's side, sophomores Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) and Yekaterina Gakhokidze (Almaty, Kazakhstan) were double, individual event winners on the afternoon, as Bonsanti won the 1000 Free (10:49.39) and the 500 Free (5:17.80) and Gakhokidze took first in the 50 Free (23.93) and the 200 Back (2:09.41).
For the Bridgeport men, senior Ivan Capan (Zagreb, Croatia) and freshman Klavio Meca ITriana, Albania) were double individual event winners, as Capan won the 200 IM (1:55.81) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:08.04), and Meca captured the 1000 Free (9:51.70) and the 500 Free (4:50.46).
Both UB swimming teams are right back in action on Sunday afternoon, as the Purple Knights host their annual Senior Day Meet at 1:00 p.m. in the Wheeler Recreation Natatorium.
