Swim Teams Sweep Pace In First Outing Of 2014 Calendar Year
Purple Knights Take First Place Points In 21 Of 32 Total Events
Pleasantville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams returned to the water for the first time during the 2014 calendar year, and the Purple Knights swept a dual meet at Pace University in impressive fashion taking first place points in a total of 21 (women-11 and men-10 events) events. The women defeated the Setters, 148-132, and the men picked up a 137-118 win.
On the women's side, four Purple Knights took first place points in two individual events. Sophomore Jaimy Lee Taskin (Noordwijkerhout, Holland) took first in the 100 Back (59.88) and the 200 Back (2:10.61). Junior Adeline Martin (Antibes, France) continued her fine first season at UB winning the 100 Breaststroke (1:07.20) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:25.13). Newcomer Armony Dumur (Sr., Amiens, France) shined in her first Bridgeport meet winning the 200 Fly (2:08.69) and the 100 Fly (56.47). Fellow newcomer Tatiana Shepel (Moscow, Russia) also won two events in her UB debut taking the 50 Free (24.76) and the 100 Free (55.17).
For the Bridgeport men, double first place points in individual events were garnered by junior Vladislav Paskas (Zrenjanin, Serbia) in the 1000 Free (10:23.05) and the 100 Free (47.55) and senior Oscar Pereiro (Arzua, Spain) in the 100 Back (52.96) and the 50 Free (21.32).
Next up for the UB women is a trip to LIU Post next Saturday, January 25, and the Bridgeport men return to action at home against St. Peter's on Saturday, February 1.
