Bridgeport Swim Teams Continue To Excel In The Classroom
Both Teams Earn College Swimming Coaches Association of America Team Academic Accolades And 13 Individual Receive Awards
Bridgeport, Conn.-The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has announced its Spring 2013 NCAA Division II Team and Individual Scholar All-America list supported by Nike, and the University of Bridgeport women's and men's programs, per usual, are well represented for their excellence in the classroom as well as in the pool.
For the eighteenth straight semester, the UB women's swimming squad has received a CSCAA Team Scholar All-America Award. The Purple Knight women have earned this prestigious academic award every semester since the team became a varsity program. To earn a CSCAA Team Scholar All-America Award, a program must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00. For the Spring 2013 semester, the Bridgeport women's swimming team posted a team GPA of 3.58 which ranked the Purple Knights fifth in the nation, tied with the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Bridgeport men's swimming program also earned a CSCAA Team Scholar All-America Award by posting a 3.17 team grade point average, number 11 in the nation.
On the Individual Scholar First Team All-America list, UB was represented on the men's side by five swimmers that qualified and excelled at the 2013 Men's NCAA Division II National Championship Meet. To earn First Team Individual Scholar CSCAA All-America, the student-athlete must have qualified for the 2013 NCAA Swimming & Diving National Championships and earned a minimum GPA of 3.5. The following members of the UB Purple Knights Men's Swimming Team earned this award for 2012-13:

Additionally, Bridgeport swimmers earned eight spots on the CSCAA Honorable Mention Individual Scholar All-America list as well, as six female and two male swimmers were recognized. To earn CSCAA Honorable Mention Individual Scholar All-America, the student-athlete must have accumulated a minimum GPA of 3.5 and have achieved at least one NCAA "B" Qualifying Standard but have not qualified to compete in the National Championship.
