Women's Swimming Tops Queens 106-80 In 2010-11 Season Opener
UB Women Start Fast And Never Look Back In Home Win
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's swimming team opened its 2010-11 competitive schedule with a 106-80 home dual meet victory of the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Friday afternoon.
Freshman Sonia Arau (Barcelona, Spain) got her college career off to an excellent start by winning two individual events on Friday plus swimming the backstroke on the Purple Knights' winning 20 Medley Relay team. Sonia took first place in the 200 IM with an NCAA "B" cut and fastest in NCAA Division II to date time of 2:23.29. She turned in another NCAA "B" cut time in winning the 100 Backstroke in a time of 1:06.38
Senior Roxana Purcelea (Constanta, Romania) also won two individual events and was part of UB's winning 200 Free Relay team. Roxana took first place in the 50 Free (27.96) and the 100 Free (1:01.01).
Junior Maris Visse (Tallinn, Estonia) was also a double winner taking first place in the 800 Free (9:33.57) and the 400 Free (4:42.32).
The UB women's swimming team will be back in action at home next Saturday afternoon when they host Manhattan College in the Wheeler Recreation Center pool. Action gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
