Purple Knights Run By Felician, 9-1, In CACC Women's Soccer Play
Nine Goals Are A Team Season High
Rutherford, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first 22:36 of action and never looked backed, as the Purple Knights got back in the win column on Tuesday afternoon, as they posted a 9-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference road win over the Felician University Golden Falcons, in New Jersey. UB is moves to 5-3-2 overall and 3-2-0 in conference action, as the team has won four of their last five matches. Felician remains winless at 0-7-2 overall and 0-4-0 in the CACC.
Tuesday's nine-goal outburst are a season-high on offense for the Bridgeport women's soccer team.
Tatianna Lizarraga (Grad., Tucson, Ariz.) got the Purple Knights on the board first with her third goal of the season off and assist from senior Zahra Ouannass (Quincy, Mass.), who had a three-point day, in the 17th minute.
Junior Kate Thill (Goetzingen, Luxembourg) extended UB's advantage to 2-0 with her sixth goal of the year 22:36 into play.
Sophomore Solune Moll (Bern, Switzerland) upped her team's lead to 3-0 just under three minutes into the second half with goal number three of 2023, and then less than three minutes later she assisted on Quannass' first goal of the campaign.
Lizarraga hit the back of the net for the second time on the afternoon and fourth time on the season with a penalty kick tally at the 57th minute mark.
After a Felician score 63rd minute, Thill notched a brace, to go along with Lizarraga's, scoring her second goal of the match and her team-high seventh of the season in the 66th minute.
The Purple Knights put home their second penalty spot goal of the day 73rd minute off the foot of Angelina LoFranco (Jr., Greenacres. Fla.), her second goal of the season, to make her team's advantage, 7-1.
Juniors Melike Dincel (Izmir, Turkey) and Jayven Howarth (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored the Purple Knights' final goals of the day. Howarth's goal was assisted by Erika Mazza (Campania, Italy).
The Purple Knights finished with a 29-7 shot advantage on the afternoon.
UB goalkeeper Angelina Griva (Fr., Zakynthos, Greece) seeing her first game action since her stint with the U-19 Greek national Squad, made two saves in the first half to earn her second win of the season. Classmate Antia Lopez (Galicia, Spain) played the second half for Bridgeport making one stop.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team returns to Knights Field for a Saturday CACC matchup against Holy Family University. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
