UB Women Lock Up At Least A Number Two Seed In This Year's CACC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament With A 7-0 Win Over Felician
Purple Knights Now Unbeaten In 12 Straight Matches With Nine Wins And Three Draws
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team wrapped up no less than a number two seed in this season's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament that will begin with a home quarterfinal match on Monday, October 31 with a convincing 7-0 home win over the visiting Felician University Golden Falcons at Knights Field on Tuesday afternoon. UB has now won five matches in a row, and the Purple Knights are unbeaten in the last 12 outings with nine wins and three draws. Bridgeport is now 10-3-3 overall and 9-0-2 in the CACC. Felician slips to 2-12-2 overall and 1-9-0 in conference play.
Junior Vivien Ruettgers (Munich, Germany) got the UB offense up and running quickly 12:15 into play when she scored her third goal of the season off a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box.
Sophomore Kate Thill (Goetzingen, Luxembourg) would then score her first of three goals on the afternoon with an unassisted tally in the 29th minute. Thill's other goals came in minutes 51 and 72; the first one of that pair came off an assist from Vivien Ruettgers. Kate now leads the Purple Knights with 13 goals on the year.
Junior Samantha St. Pierre (Granby, Conn.) found the back of the net for the third straight match on Tuesday with her sixth goal of 2022 just under 10 minutes before halftime off a beautiful double assist from Amiah Washington (So., Clifton, N.J.) and Morgan Dodge (Jr., Watertown, Conn.).
Sophomore Angelina LoFranco (Greenacres. Fla.) put home her own rebound in the 79th minute for her fifth goal of the season, and sophomore Valeria Rodriguez (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) found the back of the net for the first time this year off a LoFranco assist just over one minute later to wrap up the scoring for the Purple Knights on the day.
Bridgeport dominated the match outshooting the Golden Falcons, 26-3.
Sophomore goalkeeper Clara Karlsson (Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) made two saves in the UB net to recorded her sixth clean sheet of 2022 and raise her season record to 10-0-3.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team closes out its 2022 regular season CACC schedule at Holy Family University in Philadelphia with a 12 noon match on Saturday, and then the Purple Knights finish their regular season slate with a non-conference contest at home against Franklin Pierce on Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m.
