New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2022 season on Sunday afternoon in a neutral site affair against Southern New Hampshire University, played at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, as the Purple Knights were edged by the Penmen, 1-0. UB finishes the opening weekend of the season at 1-1-0. Sunday's match was the season opener for SNHU.
After a scoreless first half that saw Southern New Hampshire outshoot Bridgeport, 9-4, SNHU's Megan Wessner scored the only goal of the match off a feed from Imogen Noon at the 66:42 mark of play.
The Purple Knights had several chances late in the contest, but Penmen goalkeeper Hannah Rose made seven saves over the 90 minutes to earn the clean sheet.
Bridgeport's Helena Dahlstrom (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) also had a strong game in net making six saves in her 2022 debut.
Sophomore Kate Thill (Goetzingen, Luxembourg) led the UB offense with four shots on the day, three of which were on goal.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will travel to the state of Colorado to face CSU Pueblo on Friday night and Metro State of Denver on Sunday afternoon.
