Women's Soccer Closes Out 2021 Home Slate With 2-0 Victory Over Queens (N.Y.)
Purple Knights Are Now Unbeaten In Six Straight Matches
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team closed out its 2021 home schedule on Tuesday night at Knights Field with a 2-0 blanking of the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights in East Coast Conference action. With the victory, the Purple Knights, who are winners of four consecutive contests and unbeaten in their last six matches, are now 10-6-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the ECC. Queens slips to 3-7-2 overall and 2-5-1 in conference play. Tuesday's win marks the seventeenth time that head coach Magnus Nilerud has led the program to double-digit triumphs during his 22 seasons on the Bridgeport bench.
Both UB goals came in the second half in the home finale, as sophomore Tori Smith (Bridgewater, Mass.) put home her own rebound in the 57th minute, and classmate Samantha St. Pierre (Granby, Conn.) scored on free kick that she tucked just under the crossbar in the 65th minute of play. Both of those tallies are the second goals of the season for Tori and Samantha.
The Purple Knights outshot QC, 17-12, on the night.
Freshman goalkeeper Clara Karlsson (Umea, Sweden) made three saves in net for Bridgeport, as she notched her fifth clean sheet of the season.
Tuesday night's win gives the Purple Knights a final 8-2-1 record at the friendly confines of Knights Field this season.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team closes out its 2021 regular season with an ECC match at the College of Staten Island on Saturday. Game time in New York City is set for 11:00 a.m.
