Bridgeport, Conn.-Graduate student Andrea Basilicato (Guilford, Conn.) scored the only goal of the match in the eighth minute of action off a goalmouth scrabble from a corner kick served in by junior Vivien Ruttgers (Munich, Germany), as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2021 season knocking off local rival Southern Connecticut State University, 1-0, to wrap up this season's six-team, UB Women's Soccer Classic. The Purple Knights are now 1-1-0 on the young season, and SCSU slips to 0-2-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Clara Karlsson (Umea, Sweden) made Basilicato's marker stand up as the game-winner, as she notched five saves for the Purple Knights.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team continues its four-match, season-opening homestand on Friday night at 6:00 p.m., when the Lightening of Goldey-Beacom come to the Park City.
