Purple Knights Move Up To Number Two In NCAA Women's Soccer Regional Rankings
Team Closes Out 2016 Regular Season At Mercy On Saturday Afternoon
Indianapolis, Indiana-Along with being ranked number 13 in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team, under the direction of head coach Magnus Nilerud, is now holding down the number two spot in the East Region in the second NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Regional Poll of the 2016 season. Last week, UB checked in at number three in the region in the first NCAA Regional Rankings of 2016.
The Purple Knights, who are currently 13-3-0 on the season and winners of 10 straight matches, closed out their regular season schedule at Mercy College on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. before hosting Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m. in one East Coast Conference Championship Tournament semifinal.
The NCAA Regional Poll will help determine the six teams that will receive bids to the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament in November. The winners of the three conference championship tournaments, the East Coast Conference, the Northeast-10 Conference and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Championship and the other three teams will receive at-large bids based on the regional rankings.
