Purple Knights To Host Roberts Wesleyan On Saturday At 3:00 P.M. For ECC Women's Soccer Title
UB Is Making Fourth Straight Appearance In The Conference Final
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team will host the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday, November 7 at 3:00 p.m. in the Finals of the 2015 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament at Knights Field. UB is the top seed in the tournament winning the ECC regular season title with an 8-0-1 conference mark. Bridgeport is 17-1-1 overall, and the Purple Knights top the NCAA Division II East Regional Rankings and are ranked number seven in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Purple Knights blanked Mercy College, 2-0, on Thursday in the ECC Semifinals.
Roberts Wesleyan is the number two seed in the ECC Championship, and the Redhawks are 12-4-2 overall and finished at 7-1-1 in conference play. The winner of the 2015 ECC Championship Tournament will receive an automatic bid the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament which will begin the following weekend.
UB and RWC met just one week ago in Rochester, N.Y., and the contest ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw.
Saturday will mark the Purple Knights fourth consecutive trip to the ECC Women's Soccer Championship Final. Last year, UB lost, 1-0, at Mercy College. In 2013, Bridgeport topped Mercy. 1-0 in the Park City, and in 2012, the Purple Knights lost at home to Dowling 1-0 in the Conference Title Match. UB also won the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament in 2009, when the Purple Knights defeated Dowling, 3-0.
This season marks the Redhawks first-ever appearance in the ECC Championship Match.
