UB Women's Soccer Moves To 10-3-2 Overall After 3-0 Home Win Over Philadelphia University
Purple Knights Have Now Won At Least 10 Matches In 14 Straight Seasons
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team posted a dominating 3-0 non-conference home win over the visiting Philadelphia University Rams on Monday night. With the win, UB is now 10-3-2 overall. The Rams slip to 10-6-1 in 2014. Monday's victory also marks the fourteenth straight season the Purple Knights have accumulated at least 10 wins in a season.
Bridgeport got on the scoreboard first on Monday when sophomore Nicola Worthington (Cholley, England) netted her first goal of the season off an assist from senior Ashleigh Berg (Plymouth, Mass.) at the 34:19 mark of the first half when her blast deflected off a Philadelphia defender and into the back of net past Rams' goalkeeper Courtney Shaw, who made seven saves on the night.
The match stayed at 1-0 late in the second half until with 11:50 remain in the contest, sophomore Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) headed home her team-high sixth goal off the assists from senior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) and sophomore Tabea Rauschenberger (Mühlacker, Germany). Rauschenberger started the scoring play with a free kick that was headed by Puddefoot over to Moura who tucked the ball just inside the post.
Puddefoot would score the final goal of the night for the winners off an assist from Moura just 1:48 later giving each player three points on the night. Monday's goal is Danielle's fifth of the season.
On the night, UB outshot Philadelphia University by a 26-2 margin.
Bridgeport freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin Occhipinti (Islip, N.Y.) made one save to record her third straight shutout and solo clean sheet number seven in 2014. As a team, the Purple Knights have amassed a total of 10 shutouts so far this season.
