Old Westbury, N.Y.-Luck was just on the side of the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights outshot the host NYIT Bears, 29-8, on the afternoon including an 8-0 advantage in the two extra periods, but visitors could not find the back of the net, as the NYIT goalkeeper Vanessa Cordoba made a whopping 18 saves plus four Bridgeport shots found the woodwork including a late penalty kick, as the two squads played to a 0-0 double overtime draw. Bridgeport is now 9-3-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play. The Bears are now 2-9-3 overall and 0-5-2 in the ECC. The Purple Knights now must win their final two conference matches at home on Wednesday against St. Thomas Aquinas and also in the Park City versus Molloy on Saturday to earn a spot in the 2014 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament.
On Saturday, UB freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin Occhipinti (Islip, N.Y.) made four save to record her sixth solo shutout of 2014, and the team's ninth clean sheet of the year.
Before playing those two key conference matches, the UB women's soccer team closes out its non-conference slate with a home tilt versus Philadelphia University at 6:00 p.m. on Monday night.
