Easton, Mass.-Senior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) scored the only goal of the match in the 32nd minute, and freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin Occhipinti (Islip, N.Y.) made five saves to record her fifth solo clean sheet of the 2014 season, as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team picked up a big regional, non-conference road win, 1-0, over the host Skyhawks of Stonehill College on Tuesday afternoon in Massachusetts. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 7-1-1 overall. With the loss, Stonehill is now 6-2-1 overall.
Puddefoot netted Tuesday's game-winner, her third goal of the season, off an assist from sophomore Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville. Pa.) with 31:19 gone in the first half.
On the day, UB outshot the Skyhawks, 13-11, but Stonehill took eight corner kicks to only three for the Purple Knights.
Tuesday's shutout gives Bridgeport a total of seven clean sheets in nine matches played so far this year.
Up next for the UB women's soccer team is a key East Coast Conference match at LIU Post on Saturday (Oct. 11) at 12 noon. The Purple Knights next home contest is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15 versus Nyack College.
