Big Second Half Lifts Women's Soccer To 3-0 Home Win Over Daemen
UB Women Now 5-0-1 Overall And 2-0-0 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-After a frustrating first half, the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team exploded for three goals in under a 10 minute span of the second half to a notch a 3-0 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting Daemen College Wildcats on a cloudy and humid Sunday afternoon. The victory keeps the Purple Knights unbeaten on the 2014 season at 5-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the ECC. Daemen slips to 2-5-0 and 0-2-0 in conference play.
Bridgeport outshot the Wildcats, 9-2 in the first 45 minutes of play but could not find the back of net against Daemen goalkeeper Kathryn Haessner, who finished with seven saves on the day.
UB finally got on the scoreboard at the 66:51 mark of play when freshman Ellen Karlsson (Orebro, Sweden) rocketed a shot to the top of net off an assist from senior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England).
Just under three minutes later, sophomore Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) scored her team-leading third goal of year off a beautiful cross from classmate Tabea Rauschenberger (Mühlacker, Germany).
Puddefoot would then complete the scoring for the match when she put home a penalty kick after a DC handball in the box with 14:49 to play in the match. Puddefoot now has two goals on the season.
The Purple Knights outshot Daemen, 12-0, in the second half to finish with a 21-2 advantage in shots on the afternoon.
Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin Occhipinti (Islip, N.Y.) made one save to record her third straight clean sheet and up her season won-loss record to 4-0-0.
Up next for the Bridgeport women's soccer team is a trip to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on Saturday for a rematch of last season's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament Final versus Mercy College. Game time on Saturday, September 27 is set for 12 noon. The next home contest for the Purple Knights will be a tilt against Queens (N.Y.) College on Wednesday, October 1.
