Purple Knights Post 2-0 Win Over Nyack On Women's Soccer Senior Night
Bridgeport Women's Soccer Has Now Notched At Least 10 Wins In A Season For Twelve Consecutive Years
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Gabby Trombley (Lydenborough, N.H.) scored a first half goal and sophomore Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) netted a second half score as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team notched a 2-0 win over the visiting Nyack College Warriors on Senior Night Wednesday evening. Wednesday's contest was the final regular season home game of the 2012 season. The Purple Knights have posted an unblemished 8-0 record at Knights Field so far in 2012. UB is now 10-4-2 overall, and Nyack is 8-8-1 on the season. Bridgeport has now won four matches in a row, all 2-0 victories, and the Purple Knights are unbeaten in their last five outings, plus have won 10 of their last 12 tilts. Wednesday's win also marks the twelfth straight year that the University of Bridgeport women's soccer program, under the direction of head coach Magnus Nilerud, has posted at least 10 wins in a season.
Trombley scored her first goal of the 2012 season when she sent home a long shot over the Nyack goalkeeper's, Melissa Richards, head at the 24:52 mark of the first half off an assist from fellow senior Becky Wallis (Rockville Centre, N.Y.).
Puddefoot scored her team-leading eleventh goal of the year at the 67:15 mark of play when she sent home a shot to the low left corner off a feed from sophomore Stephanie D'Andrea (Milford, Conn.).
Bridgeport outshot Nyack, 17-2, on the night.
UB junior goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tockfors, Sweden) recorded her sixth clean sheet of 2012 on Wednesday. As a team, the Purple Knights have seven shutouts on the year.
The Bridgeport women's soccer team will close out its 2012 regular season at Dowling College on Sunday (October 28) afternoon. Game time on Long Island is set for 4:00 p.m. The Purple Knights will return to Knights Field on Wednesday afternoon, October 31, when they host Queens (N.Y.) College in a 2012 East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament Semifinal game. Action begins at 3:00 p.m. on Halloween.
