Women's Soccer Stays Unbeaten At Home With 2-0 Victory Over Mercy
UB Also Locks Up Number Two Seed In ECC Championship Tournament And Will Host A Semifinal Game On Wednesday, October 31
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team remained undefeated at home this season and wrapped up the number two seed and a home playoff game in the 2012 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament with a 2-0 ECC win over the Mercy College Mavericks at Knights Field on Saturday afternoon. UB is now 9-4-2 overall and 6-1-0 in conference play. Mercy falls to 4-12-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights got on the scoreboard first at the 11:43 mark of the first half when Julia Colley (Grad., Harlow, England) headed home a beautiful cross from sophomore Stephanie D'Andrea (Milford, Conn.) for her fourth goal of the year.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of UB until senior Asia Pulse (New Haven, Conn.) netted her third goal of 2012 off an assist from classmate Rachael O'Sullivan (Trumbull, Conn.) 12:02 in the second half to give the Purple Knights their final margin of victory.
Junior goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made one save and faced three shots on the day to record her fifth shutout of the season. As a team, the Purple Knights have notched six clean sheets so far this year.
The UB women's soccer team closes out its 2012 regular season home schedule on Wednesday evening (October 24) when they host Nyack College at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday will also be Senior Night.
