Purple Knights Ease Past Post, 2-0, In Women's Soccer Action
UB Dominates Play Outshooting The Eagles, 34-2
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team fired off a whopping 34 shots, 19 of which were on goal, as the Purple Knights cruised to a 2-0 home non-conference win over the Post University Eagles on Wednesday afternoon. UB outshot Post, 34-3, on the day. With the win, the Purple Knights are 8-4-2 on the season. Bridgeport is now unbeaten in three matches with two wins and a tie, and the team has posted wins in eight of its last 10 outings. Post falls to 4-10-0 on the year.
UB got on the board with just over three minutes to play in the first half when freshman Chelsea Green (Monmouthshire, Wales) netted her first goal of 2012 when her cross deflected into the Post goal of an Eagles' defender.
Senior Becky Wallis (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) would give the Purple Knights an insurance goal when she hammered home her first goal of the season from the top of the penalty box with just over 14 minutes to play in the match.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Jr., Tocksfors, Sweden) made one save to notch her fourth shutout of the year. As a team, UB has recorded five clean sheets in 2012.
Post goalie Grace McConnell was outstanding in a losing effort making 17 saves to keep her team in the match all afternoon long.
The UB women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday afternoon (October 20) at home when they host the Mercy College Mavericks at Knights Field. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. Saturday is also Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The Purple Knights will be wearing special pink uniforms, and the team requests all fans in attendance make a suggested donation of four dollars at the gate will all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
