Women's Soccer Runs Winning Streak To Five And Remains Unbeaten In Conference Play With 2-1 Home Win Over Molloy
Sophomore Danielle Puddefoot Nets Second Game-Winning Tally Of The Week with 8:09 To Play In Regulation
Bridgeport, Conn.-Sophomore Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) scored her team-leading ninth goal of 2012 and third game-winning marker of the season with 8:09 to play in regulation to lift the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team to a heart-stopping 2-1 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting Molloy College Lions on Saturday afternoon. The win is UB's fifth in a row, and the Purple Knights are now unbeaten in six outings. The victory ups Bridgeport's season record to 5-3-1 overall and the team is undefeated in conference play at 3-0-0. Molloy is now 4-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the ECC.
Molloy grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the first half when Alyssa Faller scored with 2:39 to go in the opening 45 minutes.
Trailing 1-0 entering the second half, Bridgeport tied the game at 1-1 when sophomore Giuana Prugger (Ortisei, Italy) scored directly off a corner kick. The Purple Knights took 13 corners on the afternoon to only three by Molloy. UB also dominated the day in the shots department, 22-8.
With the scored knotted at 1-1, Puddefoot would score the game-winner off an assist from freshman Gabby Reis (West Haven, Conn.) off a scramble in the box. Puddefoot also scored the game-winning goal in overtime for Bridgeport in a 1-0 home overtime win over Philadelphia University on Wednesday.
UB goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) recorded three saves to record her fifth win of 2012.
The Bridgeport women's soccer team wraps up a four-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon, October 3 when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College. Action at Knights Field is slated to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
