Bridgeport And Georgian Court Battle To 2-2 Double Overtime Draw In Women's Soccer
Danielle Puddefoot And Asia Pulse Score Goals For The Purple Knights
Lakewood, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team raced out to a 2-0 first half lead, but the Georgian Court University Lions battled back with two second half scores as the teams played to a 2-2 double overtime draw in New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. With the tie, the Purple Knights are now 0-3-1 on the season. GCU is now 1-1-1. UB has now played three consecutive double overtime matches.
Sophomore Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) opened the scoring on Saturday with a goal, her second of 2012, at the 2:42 mark of play. Senior Asia Pulse (New Haven, Conn.) would give Bridgeport a 2-0 advantage with just under 10 minutes to go in the first 45, when she hit the back of the net for the first time this season. Senior Gabby Trombley (Lydenborough, N.H.) assisted on both UB goals.
Georgian Court scored its first goal of the contest just 1:42 into the second half to make the score 2-1, and the Lions tied things up at 2-2 with 5:52 to play in regulation.
In the two overtimes, Bridgeport did not muster a shot, and Georgian Court only took one during the 20 extra minutes of play.
UB outshot the Lions, 15-6, on the day. Bridgeport junior goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made two saves on the days; while GCU keeper Casey O'Connor made seven saves.
The UB women's soccer team is back in action on Thursday, September 13 at Wilmington (Del.) University. Game time in Delaware is set for 3:00 p.m.
