Purple Knights Whitewash UMass Lowell, 1-0, To Open 2011 at 2-0-0

Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Katie Stanley (Oxon, England) put home a flick from classmate Kasey Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) off a free kick play just 2:18 before halftime for the only goal of the match, as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team defeated UMass Lowell, 1-0, in the final game of the 2011 UB Women's Soccer Classic on Sunday night.  The Purple Knights are 2-0-0 on the season, and UMass Lowell is now an even 1-1-0 to open 2011,

Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made nine saves to keep the River Hawks off the board and record her first shut out of the season.

Bridgeport is back in action on Thursday September 8 when they host Georgian Court University.  Game time at Knights Field set for 6:00 p.m.
