Purple Knights Score Four Goals In First 25:42 At Georgian Court To Cruise To 5-0 Victory
UB Women Now 9-3-1 Overall
Lakewood, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team scored four goals in the first 25:42 of the match, and the Purple Knights never looked back, as UB posted a 5-0 non-conference road win over the Georgian Court University Lions on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Bridgeport is now 9-3-1 overall. With the loss, GCU now stands at 6-7-2 on the season.
Freshman Berglind Bjarnadottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) opend the scoring in the contest just one minute after the opening whistle when she netted her eighth goal of the season.
Sophomore Gabbby Trombley (Lydenborough, N.H.) scored the next two goals for the Purple Knights, her first two markers of 2010, and senior Elin Svavarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) hit the back of the net at 25:42 to give UB a 4-0 lead which they took into the halftime break.
Senior Linda Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) scored her eighth goal of 2010 just over seven minutes into the second half to give Bridgeport its fifth and final goal of the day.
Velaj, Bjarnadottir and freshman Gabbie Giaquinto (West Haven, Conn.) had assists in the win over the Lions.
Freshman goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made three saves on the afternoon to record her fifth shutout in seven games played this season.
UB is next in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Dowling College for a key East Coast Conference contest. Action gets underway on Long Island on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
