Early Goals Spell Trouble For the Purple Knights
Springfield, Mass.-The
American International College Yellow Jackets got two early goals
from Bonnie Boornazian and never looked back as
AIC posted a 3-1 home win over the University of Bridgeport in the
2010 women's soccer opener for both teams in Springfield, Mass. on
Thursday evening.
Boornazian scored in the seventh and 20th minutes to give the
Yellow Jackets a 2-0 halftime lead.
UB senior Linda Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) cut the AIC lead to 2-1 early in the second half when she scored at the 48:57 mark.
Caroline Heron put the game away for the 'Jackets when she made the score 3-1 when she hit the back of the net off an assist from Cassie Ashwell with just over 30 minutes to play in the match.
Bridgeport, which came into Thursday's matched ranked 18th in the NSCAA Division II Women's Soccer Preseason National Poll, will look for its first win of the 2010 campaign on Saturday night in Springfield when they face UMass Lowell at 7:30 p.m.
