Late Goal Stymies Bridgeport Women's Lacrosse As AIC Spoils UB's 2023 Home Opener
Megan Kreitler Leads The Purple Knights With Six Goals On The Afternoon
Bridgeport, Conn.-A goal by American International's Kathryn Moody with just 1:19 to play in the game lifted the visiting Yellow Jackets to a seesaw 13-12 non-conference women's lacrosse win over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights at UB's Knights Field on a windy and chilly Saturday afternoon. UB is now 1-3 on the young season, and AIC evens its season record at 2-2.
Moody's game-winning goal came just over 1:30 after Bridgeport's Emily Stuart (Fr., Rising Sun. Md.) had tied the game at 12-12 with her second tally of the afternoon with 2:57 to play in the fourth quarter. Stuart also had one assist to finish with a three-point day.
Bridgeport's Megan Kreitler (Grad. Shelton, Conn.) led all goal scorers in the contest with six on the day.
Tara Dimaio (Shirly, N.Y.) had a multi-goal game for Bridgeport with two,
Danielle Kreitler (Grad. Shelton, Conn.) had a fine day on offense as well for the Purple Knights, as she had five points on a game-best four assists and one goal.
Senior Tereza Kreuzova (Prague, Czech Republic) had UB's other goal on the afternoon, and Andrea Basilicato (Grad., Guilford, Conn.) had one assist to round out her team's point getters.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jacklyn Mellia (Nanuet, N.Y.) made seven stops in the Bridgeport net on Saturday.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will open its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule next Saturday at home when Bridgeport hosts Chestnut Hill. Game time at Knights Field is set for 12 noon.
