Women's Lacrosse Earns Fourth Straight Victory With 14-4 Road Win Over Post University
Purple Knights Move To 5-1 Overall On The 2017 Season
Waterbury, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team picked up its fourth straight win with a 14-4 road victory over the Post University Eagles on a frosty Wednesday afternoon. The Purple Knights are now 5-1 overall, and Post remain winless at 0-4 so in 2017.
Sophomore Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) led UB with four goals on Wednesday. Freshman Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) had three goals and added one assist to register four points for the winners.
Bridgeport senior Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.) had two goals on the day to round out the multi-goal scorers for the Purple Knights. Those two goals also give Mengel 100 career points, making her the third player in school history to reach that career plateau.
Seniors Kerry Mackinnon (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) plus junior Abigail Benesh (Horesheads, N.Y.) and freshmen Joanna Muniz (Queens, N.Y.) and Lindsey Guadagni (Bayville, N.Y.), each scored one goal for Bridgeport.
Mengel had two assists on the afternoon, and Colligan, Benesh plus Alexis Malvaso (So., Jordan, N.Y.), Arianna Weingrad (Jr., Hicksville, N.Y.) and Rebecca Rieg (Sr. Long Valley, N.J.), each had one helper for the Purple Knights.
Freshman goalie Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) stopped seven shots in the game to earn her fifth win of 2017.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team returns to Knights Field to host Caldwell University on Saturday. Senior Day action will being at 12 noon on March 25.
