Women's Lacrosse Drops High-Scoring Affair To Nyack, 19-16
Team Returns To Knights Field On Wednesday To Face Post University
Nyack, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team lost a high-scoring, non-conference road game on Monday afternoon, as the Purple Knights fell to the host Nyack College Warriors, 19-16. UB battled back from a 13-4 halftime deficit outscoring the hosts, 12-6, in the second half, but that nine-goal lead by the Warriors proved too much to overcome. The Purple Knights are now 1-4 on the season, and Nyack ups its overall mark to 2-5.
Sophomore Abigail Benesh (Horesheads, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport offense on Monday with five goals and one assist. Junior Rebecca Rieg (Long Valley, N.J.) added four goals on the day, and freshman Isabella Theberge (Atkinson, N.H.) picked up her first points of the year with two assists.
Newcomer Julia Gasston (Jr., Auckland, New Zealand) made her debut between the pipes for UB in the second half making a total of six saves as her team tried to stage a comeback.
The UB women's lacrosse team will look to get back in the win column at home on Wednesday afternoon when they host the Eagles of Post University. Game time at Knights Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
