Purple Knights Start And Finish Well But Fall In ECC Women's Lacrosse Action To Molloy
UB Will Look To Get Back In Win Column At Nyack on Monday Afternoon
Bridgeport Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team started off well battling the visiting Molloy College Lions to a 3-3 tie with under 13 minutes of action played in the first half and scoring the final four goals of the evening, but in between the visitors went on an 11-0 run to pick up a 14-7 East Coast Conference win over the host Purple Knights on Saturday night. UB is now 1-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Molloy raises its overall record 6-2, and the Lions are 2-0 in the ECC.
Junior Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville. Pa.) led the UB offense with three goals on the night.
UB sophomore Abigail Benesh (Horesheads, N.Y.) added two goals for the Purple Knights to raise her team-leading total to nine goals so far in 2016, and junior Rebecca Rieg (Long Valley, N.J.) and freshman Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.), each had one tally on Saturday night.
Senior goalkeeper Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) had 13 saves on the evening for Bridgeport.
Molloy's Cooper Sesselman led all goal scorers in the game with four.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will travel to Nyack College for a non-conference game on Monday afternoon. Action is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
