Women's Lacrosse Picks Up First Win Of 2016 With 13-4 Trimuph At Caldwell
Victory Is First On UB Sidelines For Head Coach Allyson Howard
West Caldwell, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the 2016 season and gave first-year head coach Allyson Howard her first victory on the UB sidelines, as the Purple Knights defeated the host Caldwell University Cougars, xx-xx, on a warm March afternoon in New Jersey. UB is now 1-1 on the young season, and Wednesday was Caldwell's 2016 season opener.
The Purple Knights scored the final goal of the first half to take a 4-3 lead at the break and would go on to score the first six goals of the second half to grab a 10-3 lead which they never relinquished.
Sophomore Abigail Benesh (Horesheads, N.Y.) had a strong game for the winners on Wednesday, scoring five goals and adding two assists.
UB freshman Courtney Forry (Reiholds, Pa.) netted four goals and two assists on the day, and newcomer Julia Gasston (Auckland, New Zealand) played well in her Purple Knights' debut with three goals and one assist.
Sophomore Arianna Weingrad (Hicksville, N.Y.) chipped in a goal and one assist for Bridgeport.
Senior goalkeeper Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made 14 saves to earn her first win of the season.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team travels to Pace University of a non-conference match up on Monday evening, March 14. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
