Purple Knights Cruise To Women's Lacrosse Win Number 12 Of 2015 With A 17-1 Victory At Post University
UB To Close Out Record-Setting 2015 Regular Season With ECC Showdown Versus St. Thomas Aquinas At Home On Wednesday At 4:00 PM
Waterbury, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team raised its season record to 12-3 with a 17-1 non-conference road win over the host Post University Eagles on a wet Monday afternoon. With the loss, Post remains winless on the year at 0-15. The Purple Knights raced out to a 15-0 lead before the Eagles netted their first goal of the afternoon with 14:00 remaining in the contest.
Senior Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) lit up the scoreboard with seven points on Monday scoring three goals and dishing out four assists. Valela now has 49 goals on the 2015 season.
Sophomore Katlyn Dempsey (Elmont, N.Y.) amassed five points in the win netting four goals with one assist. Freshman Abigail Benesh (Horseheads, N.Y.) had a four-point afternoon scoring three goals with one assist, and sophomore Kerry Mackinnon (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.) also had a hat trick.
Senior Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.) had two goals and one assist for the Purple Knights, and Lauren Mengel (So., Gilbertsville, Pa.) and Emily Catalano (Sr., N. Babylon, N.Y.) rounded out the UB goal scorers with one apiece. Mengel also had two assists on the day.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will play its 2015 regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon at Knights Field versus St. Thomas Aquinas College. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. If UB wins on Wednesday, the Purple Knights will lock up their first-ever trip to the East Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Postseason Championship Tournament. A loss by Bridgeport, and the team will have to await the results of games played this weekend to see if they qualify for the ECC Tournament.
