Road Proves Rough For Women's Lacrosse As UB Slips At Molloy, 10-6
Purple Knights Back In Action At Home On Thursday Afternoon Against Chestnut Hill
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team suffered its second loss of the season on Tuesday night, as the Purple Knights fell to the host Molloy College Lions, 10-6, in an East Coast Conference contest played in damp and chilly conditions on Long Island. UB is now 8-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Molloy ups its season mark to 7-5, and the Lions are 2-3 in the ECC.
With the score tied at 2-2 with 17:18 to play in the first half, Molloy would go on a 4-0 run over the next 8:18 to take a 6-2 which they would never relinquish.
Senior Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.) was the only Purple Knight with multiple goals on Tuesday netting two. Freshman Abigail Benesh (Horseheads, N.Y.) picked up three points on the night for UB recording three assists.
Senior Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), sophomores Katlyn Dempsey (Elmont, N.Y.) and Kerry Mackinnon (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and freshman Ava Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) each chipped in one goal on the night.
Junior Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) nine saves for Bridgeport on the night.
The UB women's lacrosse team continues a busy week of action on Thursday afternoon when they return to Knights Field for a non-conference game against Chestnut Hill College. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
