UB Women's Lax Back In The Win Column With 15-2 Victory Over Post University
Purple Knights Head Into Tuesday Night's ECC Matchup At Molloy With An 8-1 Record
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team got back on track Saturday afternoon with a 15-2 home, non-conference win over Post University. The win ups the Purple Knights' overall record to 8-1 on the season; while Post falls to 0-10.
Seven players scored for UB, with senior Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) leading the charge with seven goals and one assist for a team-high eight points. Sophomores Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.) and Rebecca Rieg (Long Valley, N.J.), plus senior Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.), each had three points on the day.
Post scored the afternoon's first nearly ten minutes into the game before UB tallied the next eight goals to make the score 8-1 at the half. During that span, Valela led the Purple Knights with five goals before the break; while freshman Abigail Benesh (Horesheads, N.Y.), Mengel, and Rieg, each pitched in with one goal apiece. During the first two minutes of the second period, UB and Post traded goals before Bridgeport ended the game on a six goal scoring streak.
Junior Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made six saves in net to up her season mark to 8-1. Freshman Kasey Boisvert (Danbury, Conn.) also made one stop for UB.
The Purple Knights next game is on the road and is a conference matchup with Molloy College on Tuesday night. Action will take place under the lights with the opening draw set for 7:00 p.m.
