Women's Lacrosse Suffers First Loss Of 2015 Campaign Falling To LIU Post
UB Will Look To Get Back In The Win Column On Saturday at Home Versus Post University
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team lost its first game of the 2015 season dropping a 13-4 East Coast Conference decision to ninth-ranked LIU Post on Wednesday afternoon at Knights Field. The Pioneers, who have won four national titles, improve to 9-2 on the season and 4-0 in the East Coast Conference; while the Purple Knights are now 7-1 and 3-1 in conference action. UB received goals from four different players on the day coming from Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y), Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y), Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.) and Ava Gambardella (West Haven, Conn).
UB senior Gabrielle Valela opened up the scoring nearly ten minutes into the game off an assist from Shealyn Scully to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead, gut LIU Post tallied the final six goals of the half, to take a 6-1 leads at the break. The Pioneers received goals from five different players during that stretch.
LIU Post extended its lead in the second half before UB ripped off three scores of their own notched by Scully, Mengel and Gambardella, making the score 11-4. Scully had a team-high three points on a goal and two assists for UB; while Emily Delaney was the leading point-getter for a well-balanced Pioneers team, with five points (2g, 3a).
UB is back in action this Saturday at Knights Field in a non-conference matchup with Post University. Game time is set for 12 noon.
