Women's Lacrosse Moves To 4-0 On The Season With Convincing Win Over Ave Maria
Purple Knights Win, 19-2, And Will Face Florida Tech At Disney’s Wide World of Sports On Wednesday
Orlando, Florida-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse tem continued its record-setting start to the 2014 season, as the Purple Knights moved to 4-0 for the first time in the program's five-year history with a convincing, 19-2, win over Ave Maria (Fla.) College on Tuesday afternoon in a game play at Disney's Wide World of Sports. With the loss, Ave Maria is now 2-7 on the year.
UB raced out to a 14-0 halftime lead and never looked back.
Freshman Abigail Benesh (Horseheads, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport scoring parade on Tuesday with four goals. Senior Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and sophomore Katlyn Dempsey (Elmont, N.Y.) each had three goals, and Dempsey also chipped in three assists for the winners.
Senior Emily Catalano (N. Babylon, N.Y.) and Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.) each added two goals for the Purple Knights who have now tallied 61 goals as a team in four games.
Junior goalkeeper Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made two save to raise her season record between the pipes to 4-0.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team is right back in action on Wednesday, when they will play Florida Tech at Disney's Wide World of Sports. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
