Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team opened its 2015 home schedule with a 15-7 non-conference win over the visiting Caldwell University Cougars on a chilly Thursday afternoon in the Park City. UB is now 2-0 overall, and Thursday's game was Caldwell's season opener.
Senior Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport offense on Thursday with five goals and two assists.
Sophomore Rebecca Rieg (Long Valley, N.J.) chipped in two goals and one assist for the winners, as did freshman Abigail Benesh (Horesheads, N.Y.).
Six other Purple Knights each had a single goal for UB in the victory.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team will look to extend its winning streak to three at home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when the Purple Knights will host Queens (N.Y.) College in ECC action.
