Lake Erie Squeaks Past UB Women's Lacrosse, 9-8
UB Now 3-3 On The Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-Lake Erie's Meredith Howe scored her game-high fifth goal of the afternoon with 2:59 to play snap an 8-8 tie and lift the Storm to a 9-8 non-conference women's lacrosse win over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Friday afternoon. UB trailed 8-6 before tying the game on goals by senior Jessica Deutsch (Bay Shore, N.Y.) with 6:39 to play and sophomore Katie King (Paxton, Mass.) with 4:10 to go before Howe's game-winner. With the win, Lake Erie is now 4-2 on the season, and Bridgeport sees its 2013 record even up at 3-3.
The Purple Knights got a pair of goals each from Alexia Costa (So., Providence, R.I.), Katie King and Gabrielle Valela (So. Lindenhurst, N.Y.). Paige Adamsky (So., E. Williston, N.Y.) and Jessica Deutsch had single goals for UB. Costa and Emily Catalano (So., N. Babylon, N.Y.) also had two assists for UB.
Graduate student Marissa Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) made seven saves in goal for Bridgeport, and Katie Holden made 12 stops for the winning Storm.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team is back in action on Wednesday afternoon at St. Thomas Aquinas College. ECC action will get underway at 4:00 p.m.
