Purple Knights Pound Post, 14-4, In Women's Lacrosse
UB Now 3-1 On The Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-Sophomore Alexia Costa (Providence, R.I.) scored four goals and dished off two assists to help lead the University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team to a 14-4 home, non-conference win over the visiting Post University Eagles on windy and chilly Friday afternoon. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 3-1 on the year, and the Purple Knights have equaled their win total from last season. Post remains winless at 0-3,
Sophomore Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) netted three goals for UB on Friday to raise her team-leading total to 14 for the season plus she had one assist. Freshman Allie Wiggins (Waterford, Conn.) also chipped in three goals for the winners. Katie King (So., Paxton, Mass.), Emily Catalano (N. Babylon, N.Y.), Shealyn Scully (So., Huntington, N.Y.) and freshman Mercedes Diaz (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each scored one goal for the Purple Knights.
Graduate student Marissa Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) made 10 saves in goal for Bridgeport to pick up her third win of 2013.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team is next in action at home on Wednesday night, March 20 when they open East Coast Conference action versus Queens (N.Y.) College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. at Knights Field.
