Purple Knights Run Past Maritime (N.Y.), 18-3, In Women's Lacrosse
Freshman Gabrielle Valela Nets Team-Leading Seven Goals In The Win
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team raised its season record to 3-1 with a convincing 18-3 non-conference win over the visiting Maritime (N.Y.) College Privateers (1-6) on Friday afternoon. After the teams traded the first two goals of the contest, the Purple Knights scored 10 unanswered goals to cruise to the win. The 18 goals are single-game high for the UB women's lacrosse program.
Freshman Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport offense on Friday with seven goals and one assist. Graduate student Lindsay Kehoe (West Haven, Conn.) chipped in four goals and one assist for the Purple Knights.
Three UB players, all freshmen, Emily Catalano (N. Babylon, N.Y.), Alexia Costa (Providence, R.I.) and Katie King (Paxton, Mass.) netted two goals on the day. Catalano also added four assists to make it a six point afternoon.
Freshman Paige Adamsky (E. Williston, N.Y.) rounded out the UB goal scorers with one score on Friday.
Sophomore Nichole Rogers (Dallas, Tex.) made her debut in goal for UB and made eight saves to record the win in net.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team returns to action at home on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. when the Purple Knights will open East Coast Conference versus Molloy College.
