Women's Lacrosse Now 2-0 On The Season After Posting 16-10 Win Over Southern Connecticut In 2012 Home Opener
Purple Knights Grab Quick 3-0 Lead And Never Look Back
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team raised its season record to 2-0 with a 16-10 win over the Southern Connecticut State University Owls in the Purple Knights' 2012 home opener on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, SCSU is now 0-2 on the season.
UB jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 2:25 of play and never trailed on the day.
Freshman Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in goal scoring on Saturday as she found the back of the net five times to raise her season total to a team-leading 10 goals in two games. Valela also had one assist in the game.
UB graduate student Lindsay Kehoe (West Haven, Conn.) chipped in four goals and had two assists to post a six-point afternoon for the winners.
Freshman Katie King (Paxton, Mass.) had three goals, and freshmen Emily Catalano (N. Babylon, N.Y.) and Alexia Costa (Providence, R.I.) each had two scores to round out Bridgeport's goal scoring on the day.
Sophomore goalie Victoria Harrison (Massapequa, N.Y.) picked up her second straight win in net for the Purple Knights.
Elaina Heiple led the SCSU offense with four goals and one assists.
Owls' goalkeeper Lynette Martinez played an excellent game making 11 saves on the afternoon.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team is back in action on Friday, March 16 when the Purple Knights host Wilmington (Del.) University. Game time at Knights Field is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
