Bio

University of Bridgeport head women's gymnastics coach Lorraine Galow has announced the selection of Mark Sorrentino as the program's assistant coach.  Sorrentino comes to UB with over 25 years of gymnastics coaching experience.

Currently, Mark serves as the head coach at Nonnewaug High School, where he has amassed 172 wins and led the program to the Southwest Conference Championship in 2012 and finished as state runner up in 2010.

He also is currently coaching at Vasi's International Gymnastics in Newtown, Connecticut plus is the Connecticut State Chair for USA Gymnastics.  Sorrentino worked for 24 years at Kinetic Kids as a girls' team director and coach where he coached levels 3-10.

His coaching prowess has been recognized with several awards, as Mark has been selected as the Connecticut High School Coach of the Year in 2004, 2008 and 2015, and he was named the 2016 Connecticut High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year for gymnastics. Also in 2016, Sorrentino received the USA Gymnastics State Service Award for Connecticut.

Stated Galow, "We are so excited for Mark to join our UB family, and we know that he will make a wonderful impact on our student-athletes.  His years of experience, plus his knowledge of the gymnastics landscape in the state will be a great benefit to our program."

A standout member of the men's gymnastics team at Southern Connecticut State University, he captained the Owls' squad that took second place at the Division II National Championship Meet in 1994.  Mark is a 1996 graduate of SCSU with a Bachelor's of Science degree.
