UB Gymnastics Squad Sparkles With A Season-Best Team Score of 194.100 In Dual Meet Win At Southern Conn. State
Team Will Celebrate Senior Day At Home On Sunday At 2 PM With Another Dual Meet Versus The Owls
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team started the final weekend of the 2023 regular season and its' Senior Weekend off in fine style turning in multiple career-best individual performances on Friday night in a dual meet at Southern Connecticut State University, as the Purple Knights posted a season-high team score of 194.100 to defeat the host Owls who totaled 192.600 as a team.
On the night, the Purple Knights scored 48.900 on the beam, 48.650 in the floor exercise, 48.625 on the vault and 47.925 on the bars.
UB finished 1-2-3 in two events at SCSU taking the top three spots on vault and the balance beam.
On the vault, senior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) took first place tying her career-high at 9.800. Junior Kieran Ross (Reno, Nev.) took second place with a career-high 9.775, and freshman Abigail Kenney (Brick, N.J.) tied for third place with a career-high score of 9.750.
On the balance beam, Ross and senior Nicole Javinett (Marlboro, N.Y.) tied for first with scores of 9.850, which is a career-high for Kieran. Sophomore Olivia Imbarlina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) took third on the beam with a score of 9.825.
In the floor exercise, a trio of Purple Knights tied for fifth, as they all notched career-best scores of 9.800 in the event in Abigail Kenney, Alexis Richardson (Grad., Coram, N.Y.) and freshman Lola Sepulveda (Woodbridge, Va.).
On the bars, Joanna Chambers was the top finisher for Bridgeport taking third place with score of 9.750, and Olivia Imbarlina tied for fourth place at 9.675.
UB went one-two in Friday night's all-around as Lola Sepulveda took first place with a total of 38.650 in the four events, and she was closely followed by Kieran Ross who totaled 38.625. Both of those scores are career bests.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's gymnastics team returns home and the friendly confines of the Wheeler Recreation Center on Sunday afternoon for a Senior Day Dual Meet, as the Purple Knights will again take on Southern Connecticut State. Action will begin at 2:00 p.m.
