Purple Knights Improve Team Score In Season's Second Gymnastics Meet Of 2022 Hosted By Brown University
Purple Knights Total 189.925 On Sunday
Providence, R.I.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team was back in action on Sunday night competing in a tri-meet hosted by Brown University along with Southern Connecticut State, and the Purple Knights improved their team score from last week's 2022 season opener, as they totaled 189.925 points on Sunday to take third place. SCSU topped the team standings with 191.700 points, and the host Bears took second place with a score of 190.700.
As a team, UB posted scores of 47.900 on the vault, 47.825 on the balance beam, 47.125 in the floor exercise and 47.025 on the bars.
For the second straight meet, senior Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) took first place on the bars with a score of 9.875 on Sunday.
On the vault, junior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) tied for second place for the Purple Knights with a score of 9.750.
On the balance beam, senior Nicole Javinett (Marlboro, N.Y.) was the top UB finisher with a score of 9.675.
In the floor exercise, senior Crystal Gwinn (New Port Richey, Fla.) turned in a strong performance tying for second place with a score of 9.750 and freshman Kiana Session (Chandler, AZ.) took fourth place with a score of 9.675.
In the all-around, Session took second place on Sunday with a total of 37.700 over the four events, and classmate Alyssa Wiggins (Cartersville, Ga.) finished in third place with a score of 37.200.
Up next, the University of Bridgeport gymnastics team will travel to West Chester University in Pennsylvania for a quad meet on Saturday, February 5 with the host Rams, Brown and SUNY Cortland. Action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
