UB Gymnastics Returns To Action With A 189.150-187.775 Dual Meet Victory Over Southern Connecticut State
Victory Makes A Winner Of Lorraine Galow In Her Head Coaching Debut
Bridgeport, Conn.-It had been almost too many days to count since the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team last competed in early Mach of 202, but the Purple Knights returned to action in fine style in the Wheeler Recreation Center on Saturday night, as UB defeated the visiting Southern Connecticut State Owls, 189.150-187.775, in the 2022 season opener for both squads. Saturday's victory also makes a winner out Bridgeport's Lorraine Galow in her head coaching debut.
As a team, UB posted scores of 46.925 on the bars, 47.300 on the balance beam, 47.450 in the floor exercise and 47.475 on the vault.
Freshman Olivia Imbarlina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) shined in her Bridgeport debut finishing first in two events, tying for the top spot on the vault (9.700) and winning the balance beam with an identical score.
Senior Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) took first place on the bars with a score of 9.800, and in the floor exercise, senior Crystal Gwinn (New Port Richey, Fla.) and freshman Kiana Session (Chandler, AZ.) were the top Purple Knights' finishers tying for the second sport in the event with scores of 9.600.
In the all-around, Session took second in the dual meet with a total of 37.375 over the four events, and classmate Alyssa Wiggins (Cartersville, Ga.) grabbed third place with a score of 37.275.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will be action in action next Sunday, January 30, when the Purple Knights head to Providence. Rhode Island for a tri-meet hosted by Brown that will also features Southern Connecticut State. Action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
