Busy Weekend Continues As Gymnastics Grabs Second Place At Yale's Don Tonry Invitational
Purple Knights Finish With A Team Total Of 193.150 On Saturday
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team continued its busiest weekend of the season on Saturday afternoon competing in Yale's Don Tonry Invitational just hours after wrapping up a meet at Temple University on Friday night and one day before hosting a home meet on Sunday afternoon with Brown and Southern Connecticut State. At Yale, the Purple Knights finished in second place behind the host Bulldogs, as UB turned in a tem total of 193.150. Yale finishes Saturday's meet with a team score of 194.150, and Southern Connecticut State took third place with a total of 190.525 points.
As a team, Bridgeport scored 48.700 on the vault, 48.775 on the bars, 47.800 on the beam and 47.875 in the floor exercise.
Two Purple Knights competed in all four events on Saturday, as junior Gabrielle Kistner (Raleigh, N.C) turned in an all-around total of 38.575, and sophomore Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) totaled 38.175.
Kistner won Saturday's vault with a score of 9.825.
UB junior Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) took the top spot on the bars on Saturday with a score of 9.825, and senior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) grabbed first place in the floor exercise with a strong score of 9.900.
On the balance beam, junior Nicole Javinett (Marlboro, N.Y.) turned in the top score the Purple Knights with a 9.775.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team closes out its three meets in three days' weekend at home on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when the Purple Knights host Brown and Southern Connecticut State in the Wheeler Recreation Center. Sunday is also Alumni Day.
