Julianna Roland And Katy Koopman Honored For Their Fine Performances In Sunday's Home-Opening Quad Meet Victory
Danbury, Conn.-Two University of Bridgeport gymnasts have earned weekly ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Awards for their outstanding performances in Sunday's 2020 home-opening meet with Brown, Yale and Rhode Island College.
Sophomore Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) earned ECAC Gymnast of the Week honors, as she wowed the entire coaching staff, the crowd and her teammates in Sunday's home opener. Roland brought in a 9.825 on bars, which is a personal best for the sophomore all-around competitor. Julianna matched that score on the balance beam, which was the highest score on the team. In just the second meet of the season, she scored over a 39 in the all-around. All of her scores counted towards the team's first place total of a 193.625.
UB's Katy Koopman (Kaneohe, Hawaii) was selected ECAC Rookie of the Week, as she began the meet in Bridgeport with a sky-high tuck full Yurchenko to improve on her 8.95 debut in Florida. After a solid exhibition performance in the first meet, Katy worked her way into the beam lineup and stuck her triple series for a personal best 9.775. She ended her meet with an impressive triple full for a 9.5 on floor.
The UB women's gymnastics team returns to action this Sunday, January 26, when the Purple Knights travel to Brown University of a tri-meet with the host Bears and Rhode Island College. Game begins at 1:00 p.m.
